Shared process
This process serves both disciplines. The controlled procedure belongs to IDM's ISO 9001 system. The welding system references it and adds only what welding requires on top.
One competence matrix covers welders, coordinators, inspectors and everyone else. Training records sit with Engineering Support & HR.
What the welding system adds¶
Welder qualification is not ordinary competence. It expires, and — the part that caused the 2021 collapse — it must be confirmed at intervals or it becomes invalid regardless of the printed expiry date.
The welding manual now allocates that cycle explicitly: the internal coordinator reviews monthly, the RWC signs, and a welder with an overdue confirmation is not allocated that work.
Where it needs maturing¶
An ordinary 9001 competence process tracks certificates by expiry date. That is not sufficient here and was the exact gap: certificates valid to 2028, unsigned confirmations, and nobody watching.
