2. Scope of appointment

  • BS EN ISO 3834-2 — comprehensive quality requirements for fusion welding.
  • BS EN 1090-1 / -2 — structural steelwork, Execution Class EXC2.
  • BS EN 15085-2 — railway vehicles and components, Certification Level CL2 across the rail product range.
  • Materials: carbon steel (primary) and stainless steel (secondary). Aluminium is deferred and outside this appointment.
  • Dissimilar and out-of-scope combinations, including steel to cast iron, are referred to the RWC before any welding proceeds and are not within scope until a qualified procedure and qualified welders exist.

3. Competence evidence

For BS EN 15085-2 CL2 the RWC must hold comprehensive technical knowledge covering all materials in scope. The following evidence is held:

Tasks B.12, B.13 and B.14 are subject to the independence rule at Section 7 of IDM-FPC-WQM-001 where the internal Welding Coordinator is also the welder who made the weld. Health, safety and environmental duties (B.20) remain IDM's statutory responsibility and are not delegated to an external coordinator.
