WI-01 · Starting a new job¶
Before you quote it. A job that is accepted before it is reviewed is the hardest kind to put right.
1. Make the job a place to live¶
- Download the template job folder and unzip it
into
09 Jobs/ the current year. - Rename the folder: job number - customer - component.
- Put the customer's order, drawing and specification into
00 Customer Documents. Write the drawing revision down — an advanced or unreleased copy is not a released one.
The seven numbered sub-folders are the seven sections of the Welding Job Pack, in the order they are worked. Work the job in folder order and the release pack assembles itself.
2. Review it before anyone commits¶
- Complete the Contract & Design Review Record (WMS-E-01) before anyone quotes.
- When the order lands, complete the technical review in the same record — Job Pack section 1 — and get it authorised by the Responsible Welding Coordinator.
Do not issue a job card to the workshop until the technical review is signed.
3. Stop if it is outside scope¶
If the job needs a material, filler or joint that is not on the material and consumable approval matrix (WMS-C-09), stop and refer it to the RWC — see WI-07. Do not price it as though IDM can do it.
Paper or on screen¶
A job runs on the Job Pack on screen or on paper — one or the other, never both. Either way this folder holds the customer's documents, anything signed in wet ink, and the retention export.
Work instruction under IDM-FPC-WQM-001. The manual governs; where this instruction and the manual differ, the manual is right and this is corrected.
