WI-04 · When something is wrong with a weld

Stop. Do not repair it and carry on.

  1. Raise an NCR (WMS-E-08) and pass it to the General Manager. Job Pack section 6.
  2. Anything welding-related goes to the Responsible Welding Coordinator. He decides whether it is reworked, repaired, conceded or scrapped — not the shop.
  3. Check whether other items are affected. If work has already gone out, say so immediately.
  4. Repairs are made only to an approved repair procedure — WMS-C-03.
  5. If the weld was made by the internal Welding Coordinator, the investigation goes to the RWC. The coordinator does not investigate himself.

No authorised weld repair is possible today

WMS-C-03 exists as a controlled structure and carries no welding parameters — they are the RWC's to determine and have not been received. Until it is signed, a non-conforming weld can be cut out, the part scrapped, or a concession sought. It cannot be repaired.
