00 System Manual and Control / 01 FPC and Welding Quality Manual

2. Factory Production Control (EN 1090)

IDM operates a documented Factory Production Control (FPC) system so that products placed on the market conform to the declared characteristics. The FPC covers the whole life cycle of a product — from enquiry and material intake to fabrication, welding, inspection and dispatch — and is supported by the procedures FPC 01 to FPC 06 and the registers listed in Annex C.

  • FPC 01 — Material traceability
  • FPC 02 — Weld joint preparation
  • FPC 03 — Identification of steel members
  • FPC 04 — Weld repair procedure
  • FPC 05 — Dimensional tolerances
  • FPC 06 — Cutting of re-entrant corners and cut-outs

Execution Class

The Execution Class (EXC1–EXC4) is determined for each product/project from its consequence class, service category and production category, and drives the requirements applied throughout this manual. IDM operates to EXC2. The basis of that determination is recorded, and the class is re-checked for each product or project at the technical review stage; any enquiry indicating a higher consequence class or fatigue-loaded service is referred to the RWC before quotation.

Conformity assessment and marking

  • Initial Type Testing (ITT), or design by an approved calculation method, is completed for the product range.
  • For EXC2–EXC4 a Notified / Approved Body is engaged to carry out the initial inspection of the factory and the FPC, and ongoing surveillance.
  • A Declaration of Performance (DoP) is prepared for each product type placed on the market.
  • Products are marked UKCA (GB market), CE (EU market) or CE UKNI (Northern Ireland via a UK body), as determined by where the product is supplied. The marking and documentation pack are aligned to the DoP.
